The 27th Annual BZB Holiday Gift and Art Show Returns to Shaw
One of D.C.’s Longest Running Holiday Markets Features Over 75 Retailers
WASHIGNTON, Oct. 16, 2017 — Over 75 artisans and local retailers will welcome shoppers back for the 27th Annual BZB Holiday Gift and Art Show, taking place in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Produced by BZB International, Inc., the show will be located at the Shiloh Family Life Center at 1510 9th Street NW, three blocks north of the Washington Convention Center. The market’s variety of vendors will feature handcrafted specialty items that include fine jewelry, designer fashions, home accessories, original artwork and photography, greeting cards and ornaments.
First held in 1990, the show debuted on a cold Saturday morning with over 50 people waiting outside for the doors to open. Twenty-six years later, the market has withstood the neighborhood’s significant changes, providing new residents, loyal attendees, and visitors to the nation’s capital the opportunity to come together and support the community’s small businesses.
“Our goal is to encourage holiday shoppers to buy local and support individual artisans and retailers,” said Juanita “Busy Bee” Britton, Founder and CEO of BZB International, Inc. “Shopping malls can be overcrowded and inconvenient around the holidays, while marketplaces feel festive, friendly, and also offer one-of-a-kind, high quality products.”
The 27th Annual BZB Holiday Gift and Art Show will open on Black Friday, November 24, from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and will continue ahead of the Christmas holiday on Saturdays from November 25 – December 16, in addition to Friday, December 22 and Saturday, December 23 (when it will stay open until 7:00 p.m. for the final day only).
Vendors include: master goldsmith Shukri Goldsmith; local natural skin care, hair and beauty company ZURESH; colorful Kente shawls and weaving demonstrations by Ghanaian Master Weaver Kwasi Asare, Larry “Poncho” Brown’s original prints, West African tailors with men’s and women’s clothing, DAMALI Afrikan wear by Washington based couture designer Brenda Winstead, portrait artist Greg Paige, Harlem’s Heaven Hats, clay jewelry designer Kathleen DeQuence Anderson, clothing designer ITES INTERNATIONAL, Tee & Empathy, as well as youth artisans and entrepreneurs.
