The 29th Annual BZB Holiday Gift and Art Show Returns to Shaw
One of D.C.’s Longest Running Holiday Markets Features Over 75 Retailers
WASHINGTON, Oct. 10, 2019 — Over 75 artisans and local retailers will welcome shoppers back for the 29th Annual BZB Holiday Gift and Art Show, taking place in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, D.C. every weekend between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Produced by BZB International, Inc., the show will be located at the Shiloh Family Life Center at 1510 9th Street NW, three blocks north of the Washington Convention Center. The market’s variety of vendors will feature handcrafted specialty items that include fine jewelry, designer fashions, home accessories, original artwork and photography, greeting cards and holiday ornaments. This year’s BZB Shows will also feature a special emphasis on Fine Art artisans on November 29-30 and Doll & Quilt-makers on December 7th.
First held in 1990, the show debuted on a cold Saturday morning with over 50 people waiting outside for the doors to open. Twenty-nine years later, the market has withstood the neighborhood’s significant changes, providing new residents, loyal attendees, and visitors to the nation’s capital the opportunity to come together and support the community’s small businesses.
“Our goal is to encourage holiday shoppers to buy local and support individual artisans and retailers,” said Juanita “Busy Bee” Britton, Founder and CEO of BZB International, Inc. “Shopping malls can be overcrowded, impersonal and inconvenient around the holidays, while marketplaces feel festive, friendly, and also offer one-of-a-kind, high quality products.”
The 29th Annual BZB Holiday Gift and Art Show will open on Black Friday, November 29, from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and will continue through Christmas Eve on Saturdays from November 30 – December 14, in addition to Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21; and Monday, Dec 22 & 24.
Vendors include: master goldsmith Shukri Goldsmith; local natural skin care, hair and beauty company ZURESH; colorful Kente shawls and weaving demonstrations by Ghanaian Master Weaver Kwasi Asare; Andrew Nichol’s original art & prints; doll maker/author Franchine Haskins; quilter Donnette Cooper; West African tailors with men’s and women’s clothing; Washington staple Ida’s Idea Boutique; portrait artist Greg Paige; Harlem’s Heavenly Hats; clay jewelry designer Kathleen DeQuence Anderson;
DAMALI Afrikan Wear by Washington based couture designer Brenda Winstead; as well as youth artisans and entrepreneurs.
